4 main things to know

THIS WEBSITE IS UNDER CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT.  CONTACT INFORMATION ON NEXT PAGE IS CORRECT.  THANKS!

Location, how to get here, etc.

There is a lot to know about Costa Rica including traveling to, where to stay, what to eat, what to do, how to get around, what to avoid, etc., etc.  Casa Bejuco is on a Blue Flag beach that is NOT a tourist 'hot spot' such as nearby Jaco.  There are about 20 other private residences on the beach, at the turn of the beach access road is Hotel Bejuco and near the end of the beach by the esterillo (estuary) is another small resort, The Delfin.  We are about 2 hours from San Jose airport by car, and 25 minutes from Jaco, 10 minutes from Parrita, 25 minutes from the Quepos airport and 30 Minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park.  The beach to the west is Esterillos Este, about 10 minutes by car.  On the road from the main highway (about 1 km long) is a local Bodega and a Soda open breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Hotel Bejuco also has a wonderful breakfast plus a bar and dinner service, and the Delfin also has a bar and seasonally offers dining options.

So, how do I reach Housekeeping?

Sorry, but this is not Hampton Inn!  To be perfectly frank, this home is not best suited for first time travelers to Costa Rica, Honeymooners,  or anyone who is looking for regular room service.  Reason being, while there is a weekly gardener and an 'opening' and 'closing' maid service, all of the daily living responsibilities are not provided.  Food preparation, clean towels, laundry, straightening up and even taking out the garbage need to be done here just like you would at home!

Some of these services can be made available, and will be discussed if interested, but this is a private home and all of those typical responsibilities, if included, would certainly make it too expensive for a family, and might feel like more of an intrusion of your privacy and relaxation.

Transportation needs to be considered whether it be by a rental car, or using a shuttle service and local taxis.  It is nice to have a car at your disposal, either for going to the market or for visiting the nearby parks, sites and various outstanding local restaurants and other areas of interest.

About Playa Bejuco

Playa Bejuco is a beautiful wide, flat, coconut palm tree lined beach that has a large Estuary at the East end and Playa Esterillos to the West.  The sand is cinnamon colored, flat and without rocks like those  found in Jaco or Manuel Antonio, and home to lots of living sand dollars, little beach crabs and countless living shells.  The beaches in this area, including Playa Bejuco, are well know and frequented by Surfers from around the world.  This is very important because the waves and currents are potentially very dangerous to young children, elderly and anyone that is not a good swimmer and not familiar with rip currents and very active surf. There are no lifeguards on these beaches. That being said, anyone venturing into the water must be very cautious.

Here are a few additional thoughts and a few pictures!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case, pictures do not necessarily do justice to Playa Bejuco and Costa Rica!  If it has not previously been mentioned, this is a "Tico" house, which means solid concrete construction, lots of natural wood, a steel roof and beautiful ocean breezes!  There are numerous homes built here in a "North American" style, with central air and big furniture but this home is designed to enjoy the Pura Vida of Costa Rica, and not sit inside all day!  Air conditioning in both bedrooms may be used, but for most of the year, there is nothing better than the breeze and sounds of the ocean!  Pura Vida!!
